Reiki: A Natural Avenue to Spiritual Improvement and Relaxation
The Japanese technique of Reiki has been on the rise for those seeking non-invasive, gentle health treatments. While it’s been a well-known secret to many holistic health practitioners, Reiki is now being used in various medical settings as a natural method to relax and improve patients.
Reiki is comprised of two words – “rei,” meaning “universal life,” and “ki,” meaning “energy.” Therefore, Reiki is a method of energy flow using a spiritual life force. Although spiritual in nature, Reiki is not tied in to any religion and is open to all. The typical Reiki session includes the practitioner flowing energy through their hands into a client. The practitioner’s hands are placed on or near the client, around their head, shoulders, stomach or feet. Clients tend to experience a feeling of warmth where the practitioner’s hands are placed, as well as a sensation of relaxation and easement of anxiety.
According to TheThirstySoul.com, there are dozens of benefits to Reiki. Some of these include the reduction of blood pressure and increase of energy levels, but some benefits are a bit more surprising. Reiki can be used to treat conditions as far-ranging from poor self-confidence to asthma. There have even been cases where Reiki was done to complement a client’s cancer treatment. Needless to say, Reiki is an impressive (and painless) form of treatment.
These benefits are likely the reason why, in 2007, the National Health Interview Survey reported that more than 1.2 million American adults had used an energy treatment therapy such as Reiki. That number continues to climb with the availability of Reiki treatments in healthcare settings including hospitals and medical clinics.
Reiki can be practiced by anyone, but can’t be self-taught. Training occurs in three degrees, each which is believed to elevate the ability to access Reiki energy. ReikiMastery.com reports that the first degree teaches students to perform Reiki on themselves and others; the second degree involves performing Reiki on others from a distance; and the third degree is the mastery level.
On Saturday, June 3, Pearl Yoga & Fitness is thrilled to host Reiki Master Claudine Fenniman as she trains students for Reiki Level I Attunement and Training. This training is open to all, and costs $165.00. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Claudine at firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you there!
